Emery Unified School District

Emery Unified School District is a small public school district in Emeryville, California. The district operates two schools, Anna Yates Elementary school with about 350 students for grades K-7 and Emery Secondary School for grades 8-12 with about 420 students.Emery Unified School District and City of Emeryville are in planning stages of Emeryville Center for Community Life a new K-12 school that would replace two existing schools. This project shall start in the summer of 2012. In the 2012-2013 year, Anna Yates Elementary will be K-8 for the rebuilding Emery Secondary School. The Oakland Raiders yearly visit a forth grade class to encourage the student to work smarter, not harder.

Over 50% of Females, grades 2-6 got proficient and above on CST STAR testing for the 2010-2011 School Year for mathematics. Over 40% of Females for English-Language Arts. For males, grades 2-6 got around 50% for proficient and above in mathematics. For English-Language Arts for males, over 35%. For grades 7-11 for 2010-2011 school year, over 30% proficient or above for females for English-Language Arts. For grades 7-11 in 2010-2011 school year, 25% of males got proficient or above in English-Language Arts.

The demographic diversity of students is 70% African American, 14% Hispanic American, 11% Asian American and 5% Caucasian and Pacific Islanders; 4.8% live in poverty and 4% are English learners.
